Mini Sahara 4×4 safari from Agadir with lunch

  • Total time : Around 9 hours
  • Format : Shared tour, up to 10 participants
  • Pick-up : Agadir hotel or riad

1 / 6

This shared 4×4 circuit does not pretend Rasmouka is the Sahara. Instead, it connects the most contrasting landscapes south of Agadir in one day: bird-rich estuaries, Atlantic cliffs and beaches, Souss-Massa tracks, earthen villages, a dam among the mountains and the dunes of the “Mini Sahara.” A tagine and couscous lunch in a Berber home gives the day its genuine local anchor.

How the experience unfolds

  1. Morning

    Leave Agadir by 4×4

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel or riad. The city quickly gives way to the landscapes around the Souss River, the first stop on the loop south.

  2. First stop

    Souss River and traditional pottery

Look for birdlife along the Souss River — flamingos may be present depending on the season — then discover Moroccan pottery techniques at a workshop in Souss-Massa.

  3. Atlantic coast

Tifnit, Sidi R’bat and Sidi Wassay

Follow off-road tracks to Tifnit’s coastal dunes, where sand meets the ocean, then continue along the wild beaches of Sidi R’bat and Sidi Wassay. Parts of the route follow former rally tracks.

  4. Along the way

Massa River and Youssef Ben Tachfin Dam

The landscape changes again around the Massa River, another haven for birdlife, before climbing to Youssef Ben Tachfin Dam. From the viewpoint, the blue reservoir contrasts sharply with the dry Anti-Atlas hills.

  5. Lunch

Tagine and couscous in a Berber home

In Rasmouka, share a traditional lunch prepared in a local home: tagine, couscous and mint tea. Other drinks are at your own expense.

  6. Afternoon

    Rasmouka Mini Sahara dunes

Cross the tracks and open spaces of the Rasmouka desert. The dunes are smaller than those of the great Sahara, but their proximity to the ocean and mountains creates a landscape unique to a day trip from Agadir.

  7. Final stop

    Argan oil and cactus honey

Before returning, visit a co-operative to learn how argan oil and cactus honey are produced. The visit is included, and purchases are entirely optional.

  8. Late afternoon

    Return to Agadir

The loop ends back at your hotel or riad after around nine hours of roads, tracks, stops and visits.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a private tour?ReadClose

No. This is a shared excursion for up to 10 participants. You travel with other guests in the group’s 4×4 vehicle or vehicles.

Is this the real Sahara Desert?ReadClose

No. “Mini Sahara” refers to the dunes and arid landscapes around Rasmouka, south of Agadir. They can be reached in a day, unlike the great Saharan dunes of Merzouga or Chigaga, which require several days of travel.

Is lunch included?ReadClose

Yes. A traditional lunch with tagine, couscous and mint tea is served in a Berber home. Other drinks and personal expenses are not included.

How long does the safari last?ReadClose

Allow around nine hours from pick-up to return at your accommodation in Agadir. The exact duration depends on track conditions and the pace of the visits.

Is the trip suitable for children?ReadClose

Families can join, but it is a long day with some bumpy off-road sections. Share the children’s ages when inquiring so we can confirm the appropriate vehicle and seating.

Will we see flamingos?ReadClose

Possibly, but never with certainty. Flamingos and other birds move freely through the Souss and Massa wetlands, so sightings depend on the season and conditions that day.
